According to an article in Azonano, a team of scientists from Harvard University has succeeded in fabricating robust circuits from nanowires that are aligned on a glass chip during low-temperature manufacturing, creating rudimentary electronics that deliver robust performance without having to withstand high temperatures nor the cost of silicone.

The researchers, led by scientist Charles M. then applied regular photolithography to draw the pattern of a circuit.

According to Lieber's statements in the Azonano article, “By using common, lightweight, and low-cost materials such as glass or plastic as substrates, these nanowire circuits could make ubiquitous computing devices, and allow powerful electronic devices to enter all aspects of life.

Scientists hope to be able to build more complex devices from these elementary circuits. They claim that their nanowire circuits demonstrate the potential nanomaterials offer for electrical applications. In addition, the technique they have used to create a circuit based on nanowires on a glass substrate is compatible with other materials such as plastics, which broadens its potential applications.
